Unit Four: Apple

Unit Four focused on the letter A for Apple and the coordinating Bible truth was "If I stay in Jesus, I will have much fruit." This was a sweet week.  We learned about how Christians are supposed to grow fruit, and the difference between the fruits that we eat and the fruit Jesus is talking about (fruit of the Spirit).  It's been a great reminder as we have gone throughout the week to choose one of the fruit of the Spirit instead of making a bad choice.

Benjamin loved making a graph with all of the different types of apples (day 2), and he thought it was neat to make apple sauce out of them as well.  He enjoyed making his apple tree, using his arm and hand as the trunk and branches.

Some supplements we used for this unit:

ABC Memory Verse Cards
In addition to the Bible truth, we are also memorizing a Bible verse that begins with the letter of the week.  I received these ABC Verse cards as a gift and they are by Dayspring, but I have also seen these online that would work just as well.

This week our A verse was: "A friend loves at all times…" (Proverbs 17:17).

Christian Liberty Press Nature Reader KThis book is perfect for kindergarten, as it has a well-illustrated animal lesson for each letter of the alphabet. This week we learned about Alligators.

Fruit of the Spirit Song
Cute song about what the fruit of the Spirit is NOT and a good way to memorize the fruit of the Spirit.

Fruit of the Spirit Song
Upbeat, fun song

Johnny Appleseed Song
A song to go along with the poem for the week

Apple Video
A short video about how apples are grown and harvested

Curious George and the Apple Picking Game
Help George the monkey count apples!

Danielle's Place
This is a great site, with TONS of Bible crafts and activities.  They had an entire unit on the fruit of the Spirit.  I picked two activities: we did a watercolor fruit of the Spirit page and we used a tree template and cut out 9 different fruits to represent the nine different fruit of the Spirit.  See here and here

9 Fruit Alive: Discover the Fruit of the Spirit by Mindy Macdonald
We loved this book!  It goes through all of the fruit of the Spirit and talks about how you can put each fruit on.  Super cute!

Apples, Apples, Apples by Nancy Elizabeth Wallace
This book was super fun.  It's about a family of bunnies who go to the orchard to pick apples.  While they are there, they learn a lot of interesting facts from the farmer about the apples.

How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World by Marjorie Priceman
This book takes you around the globe to gather ingredients to make an apple pie.
